Paddleboard safety awareness sessions on the River Severn in Shrewsbury
SUP Safety and Skills
This short course is aimed at those who have done some paddleboarding before. Ideal for
those who have had lessons or have their own board.
We will explore the following: board set-up, where to paddle, recognising and managing
risks, what to wear, what to carry, getting to and from the water, dealing with conditions,
on the water problem solving, assisting others, SUP rescues and sources of information.
The purpose of the course is to offer a basic introduction to safety and skills of
paddleboarding, helping paddleboarders become more informed of the interplay of SUPing,
environment and people. Delivery is through informal group discussions and practical
sessions (yes you will get wet). Thus, gaining confidence in decision making and practical
skills to safely enjoy SUPing.
What to wear.
If you have your own equipment that’s great bring it along.
We can provide all specialist equipment including wetsuits.
Please bring; a rash vest or t-shirt and shorts for under the wetsuit, old trainers or similar, capable of staying on your feet in the event of a spill! Oh, and a towel.
Venue: River Severn, Shrewsbury. This may change due to adverse water / weather conditions.
Time: 10am to 12.30pm or 1.30pm to 4pm
£40 per person per half day
