British Canoeing Sheltered Water SUP Coach Training
Who: open to paddleboarders who have completed core coach training and interested in supporting and developing paddleboarders.
What: throughout the 2-day mostly practical course you will explore coaching
concepts, models and approaches which can help support and shape your own
coaching practice.
How: we support your coach learning by using a blend of practical on the water,
group professional conversations and post course support.
Where: the course will run in the Shrewsbury area on the River Severn or other
suitable sheltered water environment.
Notes:
- All coach learners must be ‘On the Water’ British Canoeing Members
- Completed Core Coach Training
- Paddling at least at Explore level to get the most out of the course
- Consider Coach Award registration with your home nation to access Coach Award eLearning
What to bring
Personal paddling kit, notebook etc., packed lunch and willingness to actively engage.
SUPs will be available if required.

My paddling journey began in childhood with my family and local canoe club. Over the years I have paddled all sorts of craft in many different environments. Immersed in paddlesport coaching for over 30 years, working with a huge range of paddlers on their own personal journeys. I am a BCU Level 5 coach, British Canoeing Technical Group member, and British Canoeing Awarding Body Provider.
I have always been interested in learning and coaching and in recent years gaining BSc Hons in Sport Science and MSc in Sport Coaching. Currently, I am PhD researcher of sport coaching at University of Derby.
